How it works
Easy really! Points are scored depending on the weight of the fish. The points scored are determined by the percentage of the UK record, so if you caught a 5lb fish and the UK record for that fish was 10lb you would score 50 points as your fish is 50% of the record. Told you it was easy!
The scores for your best catches of each species are then totalled up to make the League so the more species caught the more points you can accumulate, hence the Rod Race! Below is an example:
Species Caught UK Record % Points
Chub 6lb 12oz 9lb 5oz 72% 72
Mirror Carp 18lb 4oz 67lb 8oz 27% 27
Tench 5lb 9oz 15lb 3oz 37% 37
Total 136 points
As you see despite the Chub being smaller than the Carp it is worth more points also a few specimen fish can boost your points tally by a considerable amount which poses the question, "Would the winner be the one who catches the most species or the specimen hunter who catches half a dozen specimen fish?" So next time a Carp Angler catches an 8lb Tench it won't be seen as a nuisance fish! You know who you are!
